Apple TV
Apple is set to launch its own reality TV show for app developers.

Remember when earlier this year Apple promised us a reality TV show? The company said it was working on bringing a reality show on its products earlier this year. Reality shows are all over our TVs and most have accepted and embraced their existence. For instance, Budding entrepreneurs created the “Shark Tank,” aspiring film makers created “Project Greenlight,” and so on and so forth. Soon everyone with hopes of becoming an app developer will have their own show.

THe iPhone maker has began open casting for their first ever original TV series that will feature apps and their creators.

Apple’s unscripted reality TV show has been dubbed “Planet of the Apps” and is set to start filming later this year. This is the first ever original TV series that the iPhone maker will own. As of now there are no details pertaining to the number of contestants or the air date. However, the show is set to feature up-and-coming apps competing for funding from VC investors.

Apple to make the show a big reality

Apple’s Planet of the Apps will begin open casting later this year and will invove app creators and sponsor VCs.

The show has big names in television production attached to it which says a lot about how serious Apple is about this. Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, as well as music icon will be part of the TV series.

“Over 2 million apps are available on the App Store, with new apps published every day,” said Silverman and Owens in a news release published on tech news site 9to5mac.

“Planet of the Apps” will act as a platform for creators to break through and share their ideas to the world. The show’s producers have issued instructions for those who wish to participate in the contests. For instance, they are to submit their application videos no later than August 26th. The contestants must also accept to have their apps functioning on iOS, MacOS, WatchOS, and tvOS by the end of October.

Once accepted onto the show, the contestants have so much to gain. They will receive guidance from tech experts, get potential funding from VCs of up to $10 million and also get promotion in Apple’s iOS app store.

This new reality TV is an awesome addition to the already enticing reality television world. If the Shark Tank is anything to go by, the audiences have fallen in love with business themed competitive reality TV and they must be itching to see what Apple has to offer with their new “Planet of the Apps” show. Many are already seeing this as an opportunity for untapped talents to come forth and not just be seen but also shone. Others however, are skeptical saying this is just a huge step towards promoting Apple’s infomercials.
