Recently, monthly Android version distribution numbers have been released by Google and the results are quite surprising. The latest Android version, that is, Android KitKat powers just 1.4% of the Android devices. While the latest release is the most advanced Android version we have seen yet, it is taking its own sweet time to penetrate the market which is generally the trend seen with new Android OS upgrades.Jelly Bean is still the most popular version of Android with a total share of 59.1 percent among the android devices. The roots of Android Jellybean are strong and that is why, it is able to gain popularity over the latest release KitKat even. Breaking up the market share of the various version of Jelly Bean, we see that, Android 4.1 has a share of 35.9 percent, while the higher versions, Android 4.2 and Android 4.3 increased their market share 2.5 points each to 15.4 and 7.8 percent respectively.Read More »
Bored of all the Nexus 5 leaks happening now and again? Worry not because we have a latest leak about the Nexus 10 tablet now.Google has really captured the imagination of the tech community with its soon to be launched Nexus 5 smartphone and the latest version of the Android operating system, KitKat 4.4. With all the recent leaks happening about the Nexus 5, the Nexus 10 tablet was getting sidelined and people had almost forgotten that it would too receive an upgrade.PhoneArena, the popular tech site has reported that one of their tipsters has sent them the official screenshots and specifications of the upcoming Nexus 10 tablet. However, they have warned that this news needs to be taken with a pinch of salt since the credibility of the source is questionable. However, we will still mention these details because we feel that these specifications do fall in line with expectations about the upcoming tablet. The Nexus 10 tablet listing is no longer on the Play Store since it was taken down soon after. Do keep in mind that these screenshots may be faked as mentioned by PhoneArena, so keep that in mind.According to the leak, the Nexus 10 has a somewhat surprisingly accurate to the last decimal 10.055-inch display. This display will come with a 2560x1600 pixel resolution, which gives the Nexus 10 an incredible 300ppi density. The display is of the Gorilla Glass 3 variety that will provide it with protection from wear and tear.Under the hood, it will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 800 chipset and an impressive 3GB of RAM. Unsurprisingly, the camera modules too have received a healthy boost, with an 8MP primary camera at the back and a 2.1MP front-facing camera. The battery is also upgraded compared to the previous generation and is now at 9,500mAh capacity. Of course, it will come with Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box.The overall dimensions of the device have also gone compact and it now measures 258.9x172.6mm and is only 7.9mm thick. Weight wise too it has been trimmed to 584 grams.According to the latest rumors, there should be an official announcement from Google soon, most probably on November 1. All speculations will hopefully be laid to rest then.

Google has removed 60,000 low quality apps from the Google Play Store as apart of the clean up that Google has been doing since some time. To be exact, not all apps were removed by Google, but a majority of them were removed the company itself. Android smartphone users already know how crowded the app store has become, the store is more of a confusion market rather than an app market. We do not want to blame anyone at all, but there is a line or level of quality that should always be maintained in mobile apps, especially the ones that go live on stores like Google Play and Apple iStore. ABI Research has rated Apple’s App Store as the most easy to use and the best mobile application store. ABI stands for Allied Business Intelligence. Incorporated in 1991, ABI Research is a market research firm from New York that offers research on various fields like devices, applications, mobility, television, and video, broadband and so on.Google Android Play Store was rated as the second best mobile store after Apple’s App Store. The third rank was awarded to Microsoft’s Windows Phone Store. The assessment of the application stores were done on the basis of two factors i.e. implementation and innovation. Apple’s App Store’s combined score for both factors was higher than that of Google Play Store and Windows Phone Store. When it came to implementation, Apple ranked ahead of Google and RIM. Apple managed to outclass its competitors in this area mainly because of the fact that it was able to generate revenue efficiently and maintain large market share across different app stores for handheld devices and also have an extensive list of titles. It was also rated for its strict quality control quotient.Well, when it came to innovation, Microsoft managed to beat Apple and the third position was taken by Google. What ABI Research found good about Microsoft is their fresh and continuous effort to help consumers discover apps easily. Windows Phone Store was also rated higher for its solid usability. The reason why Microsoft was able to outrank others was that when customers came to their app store, it was observed that download activity of the users mainly depended on how app vendors showcased and listed their apps, particularly through various charts.ABI analyst named Aapo Markkanen highlighted that Apple needs to work on the innovation factor to rank better. He added that even though Apple is doing a wonderful job in pioneering the app industry as an app distributor, it should make efforts to change the way it charts best apps.Markkanen praised Microsoft for ranking its apps not just on the basis of raw download figures but on other important factors like customer satisfaction and retention. Microsoft appears to be more transparent in charting their apps because retention-based data are less likely to be manipulated.Apple has been leading the app store arena since quite some time. App Annie, a research company reported that in November 2012 the revenue generated by Apple’s App Store was four times more than what Google Android Play Store generated in same duration. However, since January 2012, Google has been making considerable efforts with a growth rate of 311% to compete with Apple. When it came to free downloads, Apple App Store was again found leading the pack. However, with a growth rate of 48%, Google was not too far behind. The growth rate of iOS was found to be only 3.3%.Initially, Android had separate sites for buying music and downloading apps. However, Google’s move in creating a universal place called Google Play Store helped Android users to download apps, buy music and eBooks at one place. Since then Google’s Play Store managed to achieve 25 billion download in September 2012. Still the potential sales of apps from Google Play Store are less because most of the Android devices are cheap which do not allow users to effectively download apps.As compared to Google’s Play Store, Apple’s App Store makes it very easy for consumers to buy apps from the store. When it started in July 2008, the Apple App Store had only 500 apps. However, now it has over 567,000 apps onboard for iPhone. The battle is getting fiercer between the app stores from Apple and Android. Microsoft which has just entered the app world is not too far behind to compete with the giants.
